Recommendations on establishing POCT Quality Indicators from the CSCC POCT & QI Special Interest Groups

Members of the CSCC Point of care testing (POCT) and Quality Improvement through Quality Indicators (QI) special interest groups have been collaborating for the past two years with the aim of establishing quality indicators for POCT. These groups recently published an article in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) outlining a process for establishing quality indicators for POCT, specifically focused on POCT glucose testing. Key QIs to improve patient safety, covering the total testing process were identified. Collaborating with the SQBC, a first POCT QI was successfully integrated in the Quality Indicators Comparison Program providing data has been received from over 50 sites across Canada.

The paper has been published Open Access and is available here.
