Submitted by Dr. Cody Lewis, CSCC Councillor

Greetings to CSCC members. Below is a summary of key items discussed at the in-person Fall Council meeting held on November 15, 2025, in Toronto.

President’s Report (Dr. Jennifer Shea)

IFCC
The CSCC supported two IFCC statute amendments expanding corporate membership to include IVD and non IVD members and introducing Executive Board term limits with a good standing requirement. The election of Nader Rifai as President Elect, Tony Badrick as Secretary, Sergio Bernardini as Treasurer, and Tricia Ravalico as Corporate Representative was also noted.

Dr. Lori Beach was nominated by the CSCC as National Champion for Global Med Lab Week, with approval of a motion to assign this role to the Head of the Public Outreach Division going forward.

NAFCC
Dr. Allison Venner’s nomination by the CSCC was approved by the IFCC for the NAFCC Regional Representative role on the IFCC Executive Board for 2027 to 2029. Congratulations to Dr. Venner! We know she will represent CSCC well in this new role.

Regulation of the Profession and Advocacy Subcommittee
The CSCC supported Alberta’s application for regulation by emphasizing the importance of formal regulatory oversight for public protection while clarifying its advocacy role. The CSCC also expressed support for pursuing a joint initiative to establish a National Clinical Laboratory Doctoral Scientists’ Day and will work with AACLDS to explore this further.

President-Elect (Dr. AbdulRazaq Sokoro)

Post conference surveys were distributed following the July 2025 joint CSCC ADLM meeting in Chicago to assess future participation in ADLM meetings. The 70th anniversary meeting will be held May 3 to 6, 2026 in Halifax with Dr. Lori Beach as Chair and a virtual AGM in April. Subsequent meetings will be held May 2 to 5, 2027 in Kelowna co-chaired by Drs. Teralee Burton and Kristin Hauff, and April 23 to 26, 2028 in Toronto with Dr. Dana Nyholt as Chair.

Two special issues are underway on sustainable laboratories and emerging technologies in pediatrics.

The newsletter has transitioned to a blog format. Plans to increase engagement include potentially adding videos and interactive polls, strengthening SIG updates, and linking the newsletter on the CSCC homepage. The committee continues to implement its 2025 communications plan, recruit new members and social media champions, and develop tools such as a social media intake form and a new video series titled “I am a Clinical Biochemist” which they hope to launch in Fall 2026. Additional priorities include exploring future media relations training and creating a conference promotion timeline.
