Katrina Bernardin, M.Sc. is a Technical Specialist in R&D at Dynacare, where she supports method development, validation, and data analysis for toxicology applications. She holds a Master of Science in Forensic Chemistry from the University of Strathclyde. Her work includes implementation and evaluation of high-resolution mass spectrometry workflows, with a focus on broad toxicology screening. Her current interests include QTOF-based screening strategies and optimization of analytical performance in routine testing.

Yun Huang, Clinical Director of POCT Program, KHSC

Dr. Yun Huang works as a Clinical Biochemist at Kingston Health Sciences Centre in Kingston, Ontario. She serves as the Clinical Director of POCT Program. Since 2012, Dr. Huang has participated in and led the establishment and development of POCT Programs and has validated and implemented a wide range of POCT devices. Her interests in POCT include implementation, quality improvement, and utilization.

Peter Kavsak, Professor | Research Lead, McMaster University | Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program

Dr. Peter Kavsak is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University and a Clinical Biochemist with the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP). Based primarily at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, his work centers on the analytical and clinical performance of laboratory tests, specifically focusing on cardiac and cancer biomarkers to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and risk stratification. An internationally recognized leader in his field, Dr. Kavsak has authored over 300 publications and has received prestigious honours, including the 2025 IFCC Distinguished Award for contributions to cardiovascular diagnostics. Beyond his research, he is a Fellow of several major organizations and he also holds significant editorial roles and is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists and clinicians.

Jieli Shirley Li, Associate Clinical Professor/Director of Clinical Pathology Services, The Ohio State University

Jieli Shirley Li, MD, PhD, is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She is Director of Clinical Pathology Services and Co-Director of the Clinical Chemistry & Toxicology Laboratory at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Li obtained her MD and PhD degrees from the Shanghai Jiao-Tong University School of Medicine and completed her fellowship training in clinical chemistry at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her professional interests center around enhancing laboratory tests for the in vitro diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning of cancer, endocrine disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Li has authored over 50 scientific articles and contributing as an Ad Hoc reviewer for 20 different scientific journals. She also plays an important role in participating in guidelines writing for the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and serving on the Expert Panel Committee of CLSI. Furthermore, Dr. Li contributes to the field as an inspector and inspection team leader for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and is actively involved with CAP’s Chemistry Committee.

Hui Li, Clinical Chemist, Dynacare

Dr. Hui Li is a clinical chemist and medical laboratory director at Dynacare. She earned her PhD in Molecular Pharmacology from the National University of Singapore and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Toronto. Since 2008, she has worked in Ontario community medical laboratories, including LifeLabs and Dynacare. Dr. Li is certified by the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (CACB) and the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) in Clinical Chemistry, Toxicological Chemistry, and Molecular Diagnostics.

Jan Palaty, Clinical Biochemist, LifeLabs Medical Laboratories

Jan Palaty received a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of BC in 1995 and status of Fellow from the CACB in 2000. He has worked as a clinical biochemist at BC Children’s Hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital and LifeLabs. His interests include mass spectrometry, monitoring of substance use, method validations and high-volume process controls.

Dr. Shi earned her doctoral degree from the University of British Columbia, and subsequently completed a Clinical Chemistry fellowship at the University of Washington Medical Center in the United States. She holds both American and Canadian board certifications in Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Shi serves as a Clinical Biochemist at Vancouver General Hospital and the discipline lead of the pre- and post-analysis. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UBC.
