 Michael Knauer, PhD, FCACB

Dr. Michael Knauer obtained his PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology at Western University. His post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Chemistry was completed at the University of Toronto. He is certified as a specialist in Clinical Chemistry and is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FCACB). He has experience working as a Clinical Biochemist at The Hospital for Sick Children and LifeLabs. He joined London Health Sciences in December 2017 and is responsible for overseeing the core laboratory and point of care testing. His research interests bridge clinical and quality concepts and include laboratory utilization, and application of quality metrics within the clinical laboratory.

Matthew Lafrenière, BSc, PhD, FCACB

Dr. Matthew Lafreniere is a staff Clinical Biochemist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada. Before joining Sunnybrook in July 2022, he completed his PhD at the University of Ottawa and his post-graduate diploma in Clinical Biochemistry at McMaster University. He also served as a Naval Warfare Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserves) from May 2018 to July 2024. At Sunnybrook, he has developed a keen interest in immunological and neurobiomarker testing and is working to expand testing in these areas. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with friends, reading, and exploring Toronto.

Dana Bailey, PhD, FCACB, DABCC

Sinai Health System

Dr. Dana Bailey is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry and the Laboratory Director for Dynacare at the London, Ontario site. She joined Dynacare in August 2013 and is responsible for overseeing the core laboratory. She completed both an MSc in Microbiology and PhD in Biochemistry at McGill University. During this time, she received a number of awards including the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. Following, she completed a Postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Toronto, where she was awarded the Alan Pollard Postdoctoral Clinical Chemistry Award. Her research interests bridge clinical and quality concepts and include cardiovascular disease, development of reference intervals, and application of quality metrics to the clinical laboratory.

Ola Ismail, PhD, FCACB

Nicole White-Al Habeeb PhD, FCACB

Dr. Nicole White-Al Habeeb is a Clinical Biochemist at LifeLabs and a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry. At LifeLabs she provides oversight in the areas of autoimmune and allergen testing, as well as toxicology and trace metals. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Memorial University and was a CIHR postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto. Following, she completed the Clinical Chemistry Postdoctoral Training Program at the University of Toronto and was awarded the Allan Pollard Postdoctoral Clinical Chemistry Award. She also serves as a member of the CSCC Harmonized Reference Interval Working Group.

Ivan Stevic, PhD, FCACB

Dr. Ivan Stevic is a Clinical Biochemist at London Health Science Centre and faculty with Western University. He obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences from McMaster University, trained in the Clinical Biochemistry residency program at University of Manitoba, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academic of Clinical Biochemists. He enjoys teaching and consulting in laboratory medicine.

Sean McFadden

Sean McFadden brings a strong foundation in Biomedical Science and nearly 15 years of industry experience to the OSCC Council. His deep passion for Autoimmune diagnostics was cultivated during his decade-long tenure with EUROIMMUN medical diagnostics. Currently, Sean contributes his expertise to Roche Diagnostics, working across their many diagnostic pillars. In addition to his commitment to laboratory medicine and science, he maintains a keen interest in the significant advancements that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing to the medical field.

Felix Leung, PhD, FCACB

Toronto

Dr. Felix Leung received his PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto during which he received numerous awards including the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. He subsequently completed the Postdoctoral Training Program in Clinical Chemistry at the University of Toronto and is currently a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry and Division Head of Clinical Biochemistry at Sinai Health System. In his role, he provides oversight of general and automated chemistry as well as point-of-care testing and has specific interests in the use of informatics and data mining to drive quality assurance within clinical laboratory services.
