2a Resized Veni Bharti Copy

Dr. Veni Bharti is a board-certified clinical chemist at provincial laboratories, Health PEI, and an assistant professor in the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University. She received a PhD in neuroscience from the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Manitoba, Canada. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical chemistry at the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto. Post-fellowship, she started working as a clinical chemist in Provincial Laboratory Services, Health PEI in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. She is dedicated to driving quality improvement and healthcare transformation, specializing in immunology and Point-of-Care Testing to bridge analytical excellence with patient-centric diagnostic stewardship, ultimately optimizing clinical workflows and health outcomes.

2b Resized Mary Kathryn Bohn Copy

Dr. Mary Kathryn Bohn is a clinical biochemist at Unity Health Toronto in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Bohn completed her clinical chemistry postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2025 and obtained her PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto. Her doctoral research focused on improving the interpretation of biomarkers of health and disease in pediatric and pregnancy populations through CALIPER (Canadian Laboratory Initiative of Pediatric Reference Intervals). Dr. Bohn is an active member of the clinical chemistry community and contributes to several special interest groups focused on reference intervals, harmonization, and quality improvement. Building on the leading expertise in neuroimmunology at St. Michael’s Hospital, she is passionate about collaborating closely with clinicians on laboratory-driven quality improvement initiatives, particularly those involving implementation of new biomarkers. Outside the lab, Mary Kathryn enjoys spending time with friends and family, going on walks with a great playlist, and exploring Toronto’s food, arts, and culture scene.

2c Resized Fangze Cai Copy

Dr. Fangze Cai currently works as a Clinical Biochemist at Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) in Calgary, where she oversees the Analytical Toxicology laboratory. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Calgary. She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Alberta in Edmonton and completed her Clinical Biochemistry fellowship training at APL in Calgary. Outside of the lab, Dr. Cai enjoys spending time with her family on the ski hills in winter and hiking in summer.

2d Resized Clotilde Low Kam Copy

Dr. Clotilde Low-Kam is originally from France by way of Mauritius and China.  She immigrated to Canada and completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the Université de Montréal, followed by a PhD in Enzymology and Structural Biology. She then pursued postdoctoral training in Clinical Biochemistry, which brought her closer to the practical side of laboratory science and, most fortunately, slightly farther away from staring at protein structures all day. Since 2019, she has had the pleasure of overseeing the biochemistry laboratories at Hôpital Jean-Talon and Hôpital Fleury in Montréal. She is also responsible for point-of-care testing for the CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. To her, clinical biochemistry is a perfect combination of science, technology, problem-solving, human resources management, and the occasional need to explain to a machine that yes, we really do need those results. Outside the laboratory, she enjoys playing the piano, swimming, and, above all, spending time with her vast, noisy family.

2e Resized Zahraa Mohamed Ali Copy

Dr. Zahraa Mohammed-Ali received her PhD in Medical Sciences from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, after which she pursued post-doctoral studies, completing the University of Toronto Clinical Chemistry Fellowship program in 2020. She joined the Scarborough Health Network as a Clinical Biochemist in 2021 and has continued to work there, overseeing all laboratory areas. What she enjoys most about her job is being able to support clinical teams in providing the best care possible for their patients. Her interests include quality improvement, electrophoresis, and point-of-care testing. Outside of work, she enjoys fiction, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

2f Resized Amanda Toupin Copy

Dr. Amanda Toupin is a Clinical Biochemist at Santé Québec Estrie – Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at Université de Sherbrooke in 2022, where she further developed expertise in mass spectrometry. In 2024, she completed her Fellowship in Clinical Biochemistry at Université de Montréal in affiliation with Santé Québec Estrie – Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke. Following completion of her fellowship, she became responsible for general chemistry, mass spectrometry, and urinalysis, as well as selected point of care testing. She is also involved in the supervision of Clinical Biochemistry fellows as a co-director. Since 2026, Dr. Toupin has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Functional Genomics at Université de Sherbrooke. Beginning in the fall, she will teach in both the Bachelor’s program in Biochemistry and the predoctoral medical program.
