Dr. Angela Fung is a Clinical Chemist at Providence Health Care and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Alberta and her Clinical Chemistry post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Toronto. Her interests are related to quality improvement and best practices for Point-of-Care Testing and utilizing digital transformation, data analytics, and data informatics to improve the quality, efficiency, and sustainability in the clinical laboratory.

overview:

This presentation will outline the multifaceted interrelationship of climate change with health systems and clinical laboratories. It will discuss opportunities and challenges in integrating sustainability with quality improvement in the clinical laboratory while implementing pre-analytical and analytical systems. Specific examples of sustainable laboratory practices implemented will be highlighted, including redesign of the total testing process using the 5 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, and Research) and digital transformation of routine quality activities.

1) Explain the interrelationship between climate change with health systems and clinical laboratories
