Analytics in the Clinical Laboratory (ACL) SIG

purpose:

Advance the understanding and application of data science and informatics for clinical chemists and laboratory clients, through education and collaboration both within the community of clinical scientists and with in-vitro diagnostics manufacturers.

general activities:

• Creating, adapting, evaluating and recommending informatics tools and infrastructure that can benefit the field and address gaps in the following main areas:
  • Clinical laboratory and point-of-care testing quality management systems
  • Clinical laboratory automation
  • Appropriate test utilization and reflexive testing algorithms
• Promoting equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in clinical laboratory data science literacy and access
  • Provide educational opportunities for laboratorians who are new to large-scale data analysis, via workshops, online learning materials and courses
  • Creation and dissemination of user-friendly tools for laboratory data analytics
• IVD vendor outreach and collaboration
  • Provide user experience feedback to major manufacturers regarding instrument interface, middleware and integration with laboratory information systems
  • Promote advances in vendor-provided software to support laboratory analytics needs
• Development and publication of literature and practical guidance to assist laboratories in data science and informatics; e.g. informatics criteria for an RFP process, LIS policy best practices, Implementation of CLSI AUTO16/17, adoption of novel AI/ML-based tools, and more.
