Abstract Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Before you begin, please read these Abstract Instructions for details of the Abstract Structure, Abstract Submission Process, and awards and grants available. For more information contact the CSCC Office at info@cscc-sccc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Overview<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Abstracts must be submitted online<\/a><\/strong>. The deadline for submission is January 18, 2027<\/strong>. Confirmation will be sent on receipt of abstract. Notification of acceptance will be returned to the submitting author by February 18, 2027. Additional instructions for presentation will be provided at that time.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Abstracts submitted to the Annual Conference of the CSCC must meet approved standards for scientific quality and consistency, and they must be submitted correctly. They will be evaluated by peer review by one or more reviewers with expertise on the abstract topic. Failure to comply with the submission guidelines will result in request to resubmit with corrections or abstract rejection. Accepted abstracts are published in the Clinical Biochemistry<\/em> scientific journal. Abstract data must not have been previously published in a copyrighted journal.<\/p>\n

There is a no limit on the number of abstracts a person may submit. However, multiple abstracts must differ sufficiently to warrant separate presentations. Submission of multiple abstracts with similar content may result in the rejection of one or more of the abstracts.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Format<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Abstracts will be automatically rejected if they do not meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n

250 words (not including title, authors and affiliations, keywords). Deduct 50 for each table or graphic.<\/p>\n

The abstract must fit a width of 14 cm (5.5 inches) and a length of 10 cm or (4 inches). Using 10 point and a 8.5″x11″ page, set the margins for Top 1″, Bottom 6″, Left 1.5″, Right 1.5″. The entire text of the abstract, including title, name of authors, and author affiliations must be contained within these limits.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tables\/Figures<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Maximum of 2 within the specified dimensions:
\n\u2022 Figures \u2013 upload the file using the graphic insert function.
\n\u2022 Tables \u2013 use wysiwyg to insert a table in the body of the abstract. Tables may not exceed 6 columns.<\/p>\n

Structured format<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Objectives: \/ Design and Methods: \/ Results: \/ Conclusions:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Objectives \u2013 Sufficient information demonstrating relevance to clinical laboratory medicine.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Design and Methods \u2013 Sufficient description of methodology.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Results \u2013 Sufficient objective evidence in the results section to support conclusions. Results are to be expressed in IFCC SI units. The type of information will vary by study design, and the following should be included when appropriate:<\/p>\n

a. Study Type: Development\/Evaluation of new method\/procedure
\n– Procedure
\n– Measuring range, linearity, precision (within-run and total), accuracy (comparison with accepted method and\/or recovery studies)
\n– Interferences, cross-reactivity (especially if comparable method has these issues)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

b. Study Type: Clinical
\n– Population
\n– Reference intervals and\/or decision limits
\n– Diagnostic accuracy (clinical sensitivity and specificity, areas under ROC curves\u2026)<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

c. Other Study Types
\n– Description of process
\n– Inputs (time, dollars, information\u2026) and outputs (outcomes, productivity\u2026)
\n– Statistical analysis
\n– Outcome comparison to comparable or original process\/product<\/p>\n

Conclusions \u2013 Provide a statement.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Keywords \u2013 Maximum 5 keywords.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Abstract Submission Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Writing must be concise, clear, and grammatically correct.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Technical information pertaining to observations and conclusions cannot be withheld for proprietary reasons. It is not acceptable to state that “results will be discussed”.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do not use hard returns to break lines within a paragraph \u2013 allow the submission program to break lines appropriately.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The abstract paragraph cannot exceed 250 words and is to be written in single-space. A maximum of 2 tables and\/or figures are acceptable. Deduct 50 words from the maximum word count for each included table or figure. Figures should be no wider than 3.5 inches and must be legible at this dimension, and cropped to eliminate extra white space. Tables must fit and be legible within a 3.5 inch column.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

All abbreviations should be defined when first used.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If used, references should be given in parentheses without authors or title by provided Index-Medicus-listed Journal abbreviations without punctuation followed by year, volume number and inclusive page numbers. (Example: Clin Biochem 2002;35:151-169).<\/p>\n

All presenting authors must register for the conference and pay the registration fees in order to qualify for platform\/poster presentation and abstract publication. Poster Awards<\/strong><\/h4>\n

There will be three poster awards given to the best poster presentations based on merit, as evaluated by an adjudication committee of the Society. They will be judged on: originality, significance, degree of scientific\/technical challenge and presentation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Trainee Travel Grants<\/strong><\/h4>\n

CSCC provides a limited number of Trainee Travel Grants each year in support of this important facet of laboratory medicine training. Trainees currently in an approved Clinical Biochemistry Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Canada (CSCC\/CACB) who are presenting a poster at this meeting, will be eligible for Trainee Travel Grants to assist with travel costs to attend the conference. Grantees will be selected by the CSCC Awards Committee. If you wish to be considered for one of these grants please check off the appropriate box on the form when submitting your abstract.
